The City of Las Vegas's Fire & Rescue is working toward addressing firefighter suicide rates and mental health.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance report firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. Las Vegas Fire and Rescue's behavioral health administrator, Jeff Dill, said the national suicide rate for firefighters has increased.

Fire crews have put out a large fire that engulfed several boats at the Lake Powell marina on Friday afternoon. The blaze started at the B Dock at Wawheap Marina. Niagara is the latest county to provide property tax breaks as a way of attracting volunteer firefighters and emergency service workers.
The county legislature approved a new law allowing a 10% property tax exemption on property owned by a member of a volunteer fire company, fire department or voluntary ambulance service, or spouse of a member, at its May session.

Firefighters in Casa Grande received concerning test results when nearly half of a hazmat team tested for elevated levels of arsenic during their annual heavy metal testing. Six townhomes caught on fire in Cecil Township on Wednesday.
Crews were called to the scene at Georgetown Estates on Farm Road near Valley Brook Country Club. The call came in around 3:45 p.m.

Firefighters put out a massive fire that broke out in a large pile of rubber pellets in North Portland.
A TriMet driver called 911 after spotting the fire near the east end of the Steel Bridge at 2:45 a.m. The fire was next to the grain silos of the Louis Dreyfus Dock.
Portland Fire & Rescue said crews had a difficult time putting out the flames because it was far away from fire hydrants, so they had to stretch out their hoses thousands of feet.

One worker has died after firefighters battled a massive, five-alarm blaze that broke out Thursday morning at a construction site in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The deceased worker was identified as Demonte Smith. His father confirmed his death.
A second worker remains missing. The fire captain told CBS News that on Thursday night, structural engineers deemed it unsafe for heavy machinery to operate overnight, so search and rescue efforts were paused until morning.

As the number of fentanyl overdoses soars on Oahu, the City Council is debating whether to arm bartenders with Narcan, a nasal spray that can reverse an opioid overdose.

Stellantis is recalling more than 132,000 Jeep Cherokees at risk of catching fire due to an electrical problem that a previous recall failed to fix. The company instructs owners to park their vehicles outdoors until the problem can be addressed, though no repair is available yet.

Crews remained on scene in Hull Monday night after a fire spread quickly, destroying a home on Q Street.
SKY7-HD was over the area around 6:15 p.m. where smoke could be seen billowing over surrounding neighborhoods.

On May 22, 1964, heavy, black smoke could be seen all over Cedar Rapids, coming from the mega fire that was consuming a one-story warehouse at 1201 Ninth St. SW.

A massive fire erupted in a Pompano Beach apartment building overnight.
Residents of the Royal Atlantic Apartments, at 110 NW 7th Avenue, said they woke to fire alarms blaring around 2 a.m. and heard people screaming.

A driver is facing charges after crashing into an ambulance and injuring multiple people, including two paramedics, police said.
Medic responded to a crash at North Tryon Street and West Mallard Creek Church Road around 12:30 a.m. While paramedics were treating someone hurt in the initial crash, a driver allegedly ran a red light and crashed into the stopped ambulance.

A massive overnight fire in Washington Park destroyed two houses and damaged a third home. No serious injuries are being reported; however, one firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.
It all happened on Portland Place, not far from Route 111 and north of I-64. Authorities told FOX 2 the two homes that were destroyed were both vacant, the third home which is damaged was occupied.

When Arlington firefighters respond to drug overdoses, they could soon start bringing along enough doses of an opioid-reversal drug to leave some behind.

Iowa no longer has a mandatory retirement age for reserve police officers and volunteer firefighters. Full and part-time police and firefighters in Iowa must retire at the age of 65.
The governor has signed a bill into law that eliminates that age restriction for volunteer firefighters and trained reserve police officers who are volunteers, but can make arrests and investigate crimes.

A fire reignited at the Shell Deer Park Chemical Plant, several hours after it was extinguished on Saturday.
According to the Deer Park Office of Emergency Management, the fire has rekindled and firefighters are back putting it out. The fire was still burning on Sunday.
The city of Deer Park said officials have gone over their wastewater storage capacity because they are using a large amount of water on the fire.

A massive three-alarm fire engulfed an industrial warehouse in Commerce Friday, sending thick smoke into the air and destroying what is believed to be a plastic manufacturing plant.
The blaze erupted at about 3:40 a.m. in the 6500 block of Flotilla Street west of Davie Avenue. Los Angeles County Fire Department crews encountered flames leaping into the air, creating a massive plume of black smoke that could be seen for miles.

The Georgetown Fire Department is now the first in Kentucky to offer a specific type of cancer screening test to its firefighters.
It's called the Galleri test and it can detect more than 50 types of cancer, even in the earliest stages.

A man was badly burned and a DTE Energy worker was injured when a house exploded Tuesday in Inkster.
The explosion happened around 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at a house in the 26000 block of Penn Street in Inkster, near the border of Dearborn Heights. “I was in my living room watching TV and I heard some ‘boom,' and I thought someone was in my house,” neighbor Alina Boudi said.
